WAVE ANIMATIONS: Sine Wave Videos
SINE generation & Relationship the rotation of a wheel
Sine Wave Clockwork Machine, a mathematical engine in gold and brass and silver. A wheel is rotated back and forth by a series of gears. A horizontal rod attached to the wheel penetrates a plate with a sine wave-shaped slot. This drives the plate back and forth. This animation illustrates the link between a circle and a sine wave. The degrees (also in radians) are shown.
SINE + COSINE shadows cast by rotating helix
Sine and cosine waves are shadows cast on the floor and back wall by the rotating helix of balls. The purple and green disks are 180 degrees out of phase (they’re at opposite sides of their rotations), showing the relationship between circular motion and sine waves.
SINE WAVE created by rotating arrows with superimposed ripple effect
Sine wave created by rotating arrows (the phase is determined by the angle). Semi-abstract animation.
SINE WAVE created by balls rotating about a central axis.
Simple sine wave moving on a black and grey grid. The colour of each ball depends on the phase of the wave at that point.
